Stove Installation FAQs

Here are some common questions we get asked by homeowners who are researching their stove installation project. If you have a question that is not answered here, please let us know: 01245 323 911.

We do not have a brick chimney, can we still fit a wood stove?

YES!

Depending on the configuration of your home we can install a twin wall fixed ridged flue system.

They are most commonly installed externally but you can be installed internally.

Multi-fuel, what does this mean?

Stoves models are made either as a wood only model or as a multi fuel option.

Multi-fuel stove models burn wood but can also burn smokeless fuel and coal, so it’s a flexible option.

How long does a stove installation usually take?

Most stoves are 7-10 days from ordering to delivery.

Once the stove has arrived from the manufacturers we will install it. Usually in less than three days.

Once we have surveyed your property we will email a full written quotation within 24hrs.

We work to a two week time frame from accepted quotation to full installation.

Can you help me choose a hearth and fireplace surround?

Yes, we will help you choose every element you need to create your perfect fireplace:
– Stove & Flue
– Fireplace surround
– Chamber lining
– Hearth
– Fireplace mantle

We often have samples with us for the survey.

Do we need an air brick?

As a guideline if you are installing a stove over 5kw of heat output and there is not an existing air brick or air vent within the room then one will need to be installed.

Some stoves have an air ducting kit you can buy which can allow air to enter the stove directly form the outside, depending on your fireplace location.

In some cases you can install air vents from under the floor, providing adequate air can service your stove.

Trickle vents within window casements and cat flaps are not accepted as sufficient ventilation.

Heat output is measured in KW; how many do we need ?

While surveying we will calculate the heat output required for your room.

This will give you a guide for choosing the correct stove type and size. (we will also advise on style options)

How much mess is involved in a stove installation?

Fireplace Alterations and sweeping are messy jobs. We advise soft furnishings and ornaments to be removed from the room before Installation begins. Once we arrive we will sheet and protect all furniture and carpets.

Using rubble sacks, we remove all waste from your property before finishing.

If the Installation takes a few days, we will remove dust sheets and vacuum the room by the end of each day so you can use your room in the evening. We are proud of our reputation for cleanliness and discretion.

How fast an you get me a written quotation?

We will normally issue a full written quotation within 24h of visiting your home.

Do you do the finishes too?

We do everything up to the final plaster coat to make sure your walls and fireplace are perfectly to your liking.

We are as competent on building works as we are stove installations!

Can we do any of the work ourselves?

Of course.

We offer a full service for those who do not wish to get involved. However, if you are competent at D.I.Y. or you have a builder who is building your fireplace or alterations then we will gladly work with them.

We do recommend installing our own flue liners and we would need to install the stove and test under HETAS regulations.

I live in a thatched house, is that a problem?

It is no problem.

In fact we understand the exact requirements of home insurance providers so well, that we’ve helped thatched homeowners reduce their insurance premiums when we have installed their wood stove!

Tell us what you want, and we will make it happen exactly as you, and insurance providers need.

What Customers Say

Top-notch Professional Installation

“We consider ourselves so lucky to have found Firecrest Stoves for our stove and flue installation.

Had we listened to the advice of the other 2 installers we asked for a quote – we would now likely not have our stove where we wanted it.

Firecrest, however, dared tackle the more difficult flue option and hence our stove ended up in the perfect position for us. And “tackle” they did it beautifully!

We are so happy with both the end result and the way it came about; Firecrest are a great team to have working in your house: Professional, polite, tidy; everything you want from a job well done. Lucky us! :-)”Serge & Marlies, Enfield
